Job Responsibilities:

  • Present lectures in different areas according to the needs of the department and to ensure a fair distribution of teaching and learning load in the department.
  • Assessment of students in clinical, practical and theoretical areas.
  • Provide written and verbal feedback to students.
  • Keep record of all student consultations and writing of reports with regards to student academic support and development interventions.
  • Community Service: Be involved in Community Service as required within the employment criteria of the UFS.
  • Conduct own research and/or supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate research according to the needs of the department.
  • Administrative and developmental tasks within the department and School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, as required.
  • The candidate will be responsible for the supervision and assessment of students in the clinical areas mainly with relevance to Pulmonolgy, ICU, Cardio-thoracic surgery, general surgery at various hospitals/clinics as determined during the yearly departmental planning.
  • Marketing of the undergraduate Physiotherapy programme.
  • The candidate, irrespective of other tasks, will be responsible for teaching of the following: Pulmonology, ICU, Cardio-thoracic surgery, General Surgery. The continuation thereof will be determined at the yearly planning session of the department.
  • Utilising simulation during the teaching and learning of the cardio-pulmonary module.
  • Facilitate teaching, learning and assessment strategies, as well as activities and outcomes for undergraduate students.
  • Plan and implement relevant interventions to provide academic support for undergraduate students in the Department of Physiotherapy.

Job Requirements:

  • The ability to teach and train students according to the minimum requirements of the HPCSA.
  • Cardio-pulmonary Therapy (CPT1) course.
  • Good human relations.
  • The ability to teach and train students according to the minimum requirements of the HPCSA.
  • Must be able to work independently and arrange their own work schedule.
  • Must be dependable.
  • The ability to function with ease in the University’s richly diverse working environment, as well as the academic platform.

  • A Master’s degree on NQF level 9 in Physiotherapy.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • The ability to be reliable, responsible, dependable and to fulfil obligations.
  • The ability to carefully analyse information and use logic to address issues and problems at work.
  • Registration as a Physiotherapist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa
  • Must have completed the HPEA module on assessment as presented by Division Health Science Education or commit to enrol for the module as soon as possible.
  • Experience in higher education and/or supervision of students during clinical training.
  • The ability to stick with tasks, not give up and overcome obstacles in competing tasks.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A good academic record.
