Job Description:

Chemonics International, seeks an Accountant for the USAID/ VukaNow Activity. Currently in its final year, this five-year project aims to support the shared commitments of the U.S. Government, the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), member states, private sector partners, and civil society to significantly decrease wildlife crime across southern Africa. The purpose of the Activity is to coordinate learning and sharing and support strategic regional activities to address wildlife crime challenges. We are looking for dynamic individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. This position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review invoices from vendors and manage and ensure timely payment by the project.
  • Put together and monitor Value Added Tax (VAT) payments and reports.
  • Review travel authorization and advance requests and expense reports
  • Conduct monthly payroll processing procedures, using SAGE software
  • Prepare documentation for all payment transactions, including but not limited to vouchers, checks and transfer forms. Ensure that appropriate documentation and approvals are obtained.
  • Prepare comp time calculations, post timesheets and track sick leave and vacation time in alignment with monthly salary payments.
  • Prepare local transactions for submission, wire transfer requests, and bank reconciliations.
  • Perform other general accountant duties as needed and other duties as may be assigned by Operations Specialist.
  • Replenish petty cash account. Review expense requests for petty cash. Ensure complete documentation and receipts and distribute petty cash to project personnel.
  • Review procurement action requests
  • Maintain the project’s accounting files system. Make sure that all vouchers are in order, completed properly and have bank slips/copy of checks attached.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum five years of demonstrated relevant experience
  • Fluency in English required
  • Bachelor of Commerce, or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of USAID financial and management systems, regulations, and reporting requirements preferred but not necessary – knowledge of D365 is desirable.
