Job Responsibilities:

Provide effective speech, language and dysphagia services for in-patient and external stakeholders in adherence to scope of practice this includes (but is not limited to) assessing, diagnosing and treating patients within a multidisciplinary team. Planning and problem solving appropriately. Providing education and counselling to patients, family and caregivers. Selecting, issuing and training in the appropriate use of assistive devices. Monitoring and reviewing of patient progress. Documenting patient information, patient statistics. Attending ward rounds, discussions, meetings with multidisciplinary team. Liaising with relevant stakeholders and referring appropriately. Contributing to service development by monitoring, evaluating and coordinating existing services, identifying developmental needs and managing waiting lists. Participate in implementing new services and developing management protocols for improved patient care. To comply with quality assurance standards. Provide public education regarding feeding and communication difficulties. Contribute towards implementation of strategic plans in keeping with the requirements of the institution, the province and national health by participating in data collection and make suggestions to work within a team to improve speech therapy services. Assist with management of resources (namely human, finance and physical) of the department. Assist with student supervision. Adhere to legislation, regulations, ethical policies, guidelines and protocols at a national, provincial and institution-specific level.

Job Requirements:

Matric Certificate ,NQF Level 4 Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with HPCSA as either a Speech Therapist and Audiologist (STA) or Speech Therapist (ST). Current registration with HPCSA as STA or ST one year post community service. Good verbal and written communication skills. Good report writing and computer literacy skills. Ability to work in a team. Ability to work under pressure in a changing environment. To relief colleagues as the need arises and work closely with other disciplines. The following will be an added advantage: experience in Alternative Augmentative Communication, Neurological disorders/TBI and Neonatal dysphagia.
