Job Description:

Absa’s CIB Markets Tech team provides regulatory technology support to the organization’s Corporate and Investment Banking sector. The Regulatory Technology team is specifically dedicated to our Markets business area and is responsible for the support, enhancement, and maintenance of all regulatory and compliance processes. Regulatory reporting requires vast knowledge of the latest development tools that enable one to extract and send data to local and international regulatory repositories. We collect data from various systems and shared locations, format the data for a specific regulatory requirement and populate regulatory reports.
We are looking for a Software Engineer with experience in Financial Markets (trading) and with a balance of technical knowledge for Front Arena as a primary system vs technical knowledge for regulatory reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the design & evolution of Group Architecture, Infrastructure & associated technical standards for the organization
• Conduct reviews, performance monitoring & ongoing optimization and maintenance on applications
• Stay ahead of the curve on emerging technologies and development practices
• Apply critical thinking, design thinking and problem-solving skills in an agile team environment to solve complex technical problems (Front
• End, Back End and Integration) with high quality solutions
• Apply general design patterns and paradigms to deliver technical and functional solutions
• Automate regulatory reporting through appropriate tools
• Stay ahead of the curve on emerging regulatory and non-regulatory technologies and development practices e.g. scripting languages, containerization etc.
• Ensure designs & solutions support the technical organisation principles of self-service, repeatability, testability, scalability & resilience
• Work with project & program teams (when required) to plan & manage the development lifecycle e.g. releases, risk management, testing, integration etc.
• Develop high quality software / application design and architecture in a test driven & domain driven / cross domain environment
• Quickly produce well-organised, optimized, and documented source code to deliver technical solutions
• Contribute to and in some cases lead all phases of the development lifecycle including e.g. design process
• Determine operational feasibility of solutions by evaluating analysis, problem definition, business requirements, solution development and proposed solutions

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree: Information Technology
• Experience in API creation, Integration tools, automation tools and regulatory reporting technologies, FIX Protocols etc.
• Min 5 years of software development experience
• Ability to write code for reporting outputs
• Minimum 3 years of experience in Investment Banking / Capital Markets IT domain
• 3 years of experience in Front Arena (or equivalent system) development / consulting projects
• Excellent understanding of specific coding / scripting languages e.g. Java, C#, Python, Perl, JavaScript
• Preferably Python experience or relevant programming languages (eg. Java)
• Experience working in an agile environment
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder’s management skills
• Experience in Front Arena AEF: ACM, AEL, ADFL, ASQL, Python, C# .net, C++, MS SQL, XSLT, Kafka
• Deep knowledge of FA components such as PRIME, ADS, AMB, AMBA, ATS, AFG-AMB, etc.
• Strong technical skills: Software design and development, business analysis, quality assurance, release management
• Ability to perform and adapt to a challenging, fact pace environment
• Analytical skills and decision making ability in collaborative environments
