Job Description:

The Finance Manager will provide financial and/or business leadership to the finance team and the school. The Finance Manager will support the Operations Director and the Head of School with full financial accountability by providing expert guidance on financial planning, reporting, organising and monitoring of financial outcomes. The Finance Manager will be a strategist that will provide strategic direction and inputs into the finance and business related developments of the school.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the end-to-end financial processes, procedures and controls in an effective, efficient and professional manner as per the policies and procedures of the University.
  • Ensuring the data integrity of all recorded revenue and costs.
  • Drive the preparation of reconciliations for all financial accounts.
  • Provide timely accurate financial reporting for Management and faculty finance office.
  • Takes overall responsibility for the financial and accounting operations of the School.
  • Lead the preparation, management and coordination of annual budgeting process of the whole school.
  • Manage donor/Projects/NRF/RINC funding and generate reports for the funders.
  • Manage the annual fee increase process relating specifically to the Wits Business School.
  • Ensuring that the monthly payroll process is completed in a timeous manner.
  • Upholds governance and controls processes, cooperating with both internal and external auditors to drive continuous improvements.
  • Effective management of procurement and debt management processes.
  • Develop finance team members as part of the talent management process.

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in commerce (Accounting)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in finance (experience gained in an institution of higher learning would be advantageous).
  • Completed articles with a reputable audit firm would be advantageous
  • Current professional members with a SA recognised accounting body (SAICA or SAIPA or SAIBA) will be to your advantage
  • Demonstrated bias for strategy and action.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated people management skills.
  • You’ll be self-driven, disciplined and able to function independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in the delegate/client service spotlight.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
