Job Description:
Sutter Delta Medical Center is a 145 bed medical facility providing diagnostic and therapeutic treatment services for the eastern portion of Contra Costa County which includes the communities of Antioch, Brentwood, Bethel Island, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, Oakley and Pittsburg. Services are provided for newborns, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
The primary role of the staff RN is to coordinate the delivery of care for the patient population they serve from admission through discharge. Included in this delivery of care are all aspects of the physical, psychosocial, safety and educational needs of the patient and their family/support system. This function is performed in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including but not limited to nursing peers, attending physicians and ancillary support services. The staff RN uses the nursing process, medical therapeutics, technology and personal interventions to accomplish this.
Job Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree preferred
- Valid California RN License required
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- PALS required
- Certification in Specialty preferred
- EPIC documentation preferred
- One year of basic Medical / Surgical acute care nursing experience or at least six months experience in specialty area required
- Experience in Emergency Room nursing in the acute care setting or experience in Critical Care nursing in the acute care setting
- Experience in overseeing the duties of Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) and Emergency Room Technician
- Understanding of multiple diagnoses as this role is the first line of defense for accidents, allergic reactions, and any number of urgent medical care
- Ability to quickly assess the needs of each patient, prioritize care based on its critical nature, and work to stabilize a patient, treat the problem, discharge the patient after the emergency is over or makes arrangements for a longer hospital stay
- Calm under Pressure: ER Nurses face urgent, life-or-death situations almost daily and need to function in emergency situations
- Demonstrates Patience: providing care under stressful circumstances requires patience.
- Communication Skills that allows for comforting interactions with patients who are scared, in pain or in shock. ED nurses need to be patient listeners and good communicators to help keep everyone calm and help them understand the situation
- Responsible for handling initial patient assessments, performing laboratory work, and point of care testing and associated administrative tasks
- Must learn operations of relevant emergency room equipment
- Basic Medical / Surgical nursing skills
- Basic competencies in the nursing process and pharmacology
- Basic knowledge of adolescent, adult and geriatric population
- Ability to work with all levels of nursing personnel and assist them in a resource capacity
- Effective English written and verbal communication skills
- 6 months Experience in Emergency Room or Critical Care nursing in the acute care setting or successful completion in the Emergency
- Department Transitions in Practice Program
