Job Description:
The main purpose of the Renewable Energy Commercial Head/Lead is to take ownership of all commercial and financial inputs and deliverables across all renewable energy projects and programmes including project development, due diligences, partnership strategies, procurement strategies and contracting strategies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyse Sasol’s commercial needs and matching of renewable energy generation to electricity demand across current operations as well as for future projects, such as green hydrogen projects
- Support the business development team in all commercial and financial input to business development and procurement processes
- Build, scale, and develop commercial team and instill effective ways of working
- Develop, review and support project budgets, timelines & estimates
- Manage interface risk across commercial elements of projects
- Support commercial execution in terms of construction, operations and maintenance of RE plants
- Recommend and drive commercial partnering and contracting strategies
- Preparation and management of commercial aspects into specifications, tender stage management and evaluations, negotiation and selection of EPC, O&M and other supply contracts
- Manage all commercial interfaces and risks and put mitigation measures in place where necessary
- Provide VP Renewables and other leadership teams with timely information and materials for effective decision making
- Manage commercial risks across RE projects and programmes
- Support VP Renewables in creating a Renewables Centre of Excellence in the business
- Lead the commercial and financial team/s that drive end-to-end project development and delivery (from concept design, through feasibility and into construction)
- Lead commercial and financial input into renewable energy procurement processes and programmes
- Lead all commercial negotiations across and/all renewable energy transactions
- Lead commercial and financial input and negotiations through project due diligence processes
Job Requirements:
- 13+ relevant years Experience
- 10+ years in commercial/business development role with strong track record of project development and execution
- Deep knowledge of energy value chains and key players across the value chain (incl. potential H2 off takers)
- Experienced leader able to transfer skills to team and grow capacity and capability
- Team leadership – identify skills / resources reqd. and coach resources to develop over tim
- Commercially astute – externally focused with strong negotiation and collaboration skills
- Executional prowess – ability to define plan of action, organise team, and deliver on time
