Job Description:

Sappi Lomati Mill requires a Risk Manager to manage and coordinate an integrated management system that ensures legal compliance to the legislation and to continuously reduce the mill’s risk profile.

Job Responsibilities:

• To direct and facilitate the implementation of certification requirements in respect of ISO 9001
• Formulates and monitor mill and departmental objectives, company protective policies, procedures, rules and regulations as well as relevant policies
• Prepare and control the risk department business plan covering personnel, assets, installations, equipment, vehicles, insurance premiums capex and major contracts
• Formulate relevant policies and procedures to meet with external certification, legal and international best practice requirements for the mill
• Ensure and advise on company compliance with statutory requirements in the risk management field through the monitoring of legislative changes, consultation with legal experts, external legal compliance audits, corrective action plans and internal audits
• Maintain membership and or foster close liaison with professional associations, industry leaders and or service providers in the risk management field
• Coordinate investigations and claim submissions on insured events, propose and affect changes to renewal of insured asset values, insurance cover requirements and uninsured risks
• Direct team in the Identification and assessment of health and safety risks and make recommendations to reduce the risk of occupational illness and injury
• Direct the safety induction program requirements and specific workplace safety, health and environmental training requirements commensurate with company practices, legal prescriptions and safety improvement initiatives
• Direct team in the requirements of the occupational hygiene program and the integration thereof with the Health Services provided by the company
• Monitor that environmental legal requirements are complied with in all respects and that the required measurements are recorded and the necessary documentation and investigations are forwarded to the relevant government authorities

Job Requirements:

• Diploma / Degree in Environmental / Health / Safety Management
• Relevant Management qualification
• 5 Years relevant experience
• Managerial experience will be an advantage
