Job Description:

Sappi Tugela Mill based in Mandeni, KZN, requires an Electronics Technician to provides an engineering service,  by undertaking and giving technical guidance in the design, construction, maintenance and repair activity conducted on process control systems, equipment and plant on an ongoing basis as necessitated by production, engineering and departmental requirements in order to ensure the provision and ongoing optimum performance of process control systems.

Job Responsibilities:

• Undertakes and leads engineering tasks and inventory projects of specialist nature by application of technical knowledge and leadership skills.
• Manages varied multi-disciplinary plant modifications / project work from concept to commissioning and close out.
• Ensures that all modifications / projects conform fully to Mill Change Management Procedures, Mill Standard Specifications, Mill Safety Standards and the OHS Act.
• Makes use of technical qualifications, experience and own and outside expertise to design instrumentation modifications for both process and maintenance improvement applications and advise on instrument equipment.
• Provides technical support to and analyses breakdowns for Maintenance Engineers and Process Managers as instructed by the E/I Engineer.
• Compile detailed and accurate cost estimates for modifications / projects, obtaining specialist assistance when required.
• Accurately manage project costs on a real-time basis, so that over-expenditures are foreseen, and management alerted well prior to their occurrence.
• Provides technical expertise within the department as required and also assists with the development of staff skills by giving technical assistance and guidance.
• Undertakes standby duties as required on a rotational basis.
• Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section, and monitor subordinate’s performance against SHEQ requirements and corrects non-conformances.
• Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non-Conformances and corrects deviations, as well as maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time.
• Creates, designs and maintains software requirements for all Programmable Logic Controllers (S5 & S7), Application Controller (APC) and Variable Speed Drives (ACV700) applications / installations throughout the Mill.

Job Requirements:

• Recognised Trade Test Certificate in Electrical/Instruments or S4/T4 Diploma in Electronics.
• Grade 12 or N3 Engineering.
• 5 years Industrial process control experience.
• Knowledge of SAP PM & MS Office
