BASF Careers in Houston – Senior Project Manager

Job Description:

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for executing large capital investment projects throughout North America. The Project Manager is the focal point of responsibility, authority, and accountability of these capital investments. This position is accountable for the efforts required to execute capital projects in the range of $50-250M during the entire project life cycle. This responsibility typically includes leading a project team of 50-150 BASF and Contractor personnel, translating the objectives of the project into targets for each of the project team leads. Additionally, this position is responsible for communicating the project status, concerns, and recommended corrective actions to the project stakeholders, typically executive level individuals. This position will also represent BASF’s interests on relevant technical communities.

Job Requirements:

• Ability to influence project stakeholders and effectively communicate to executives project status, risks, and opportunities
• Coordinate decisions on countermeasures or mitigation strategies, when necessary.
• Leverage your educational background in an Engineering discipline (preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering) as well as your extensive professional experience in Project Management.
• Lead a diverse team in the planning and execution of strategically important projects throughout the region.
• Champion the scope development process, and ensure completeness of basic engineering as well as look for opportunities for scope optimization
• Add value through the application of disciplined Value Based Engineering and Risk Management.
• Ability to understand and manage customer expectations coupled with your understanding of labor and material market influences.
• Strong ability to identify the root cause of conflict and minimize impact to the project team
• Motivate personnel that indirectly reports to you as well as negotiate terms and conditions of the project regarding overall engineering activities.
• Demonstrate your strength as a mentor by supporting the project team members in their development of technical and interpersonal skills
